I come from a creative and education background, where I taught everything from music composition and electronic music to digital literacy and design.
While teaching I experimented with business on the side with a digital planner shop, a candle shop, and eventually VA services—because why not?
Then I accidentally started an agency. It was terrible.
After I left the teaching profession my services took off and when I looked up I had accidentally started a content marketing agency!!
I’m not exactly sure how I got there. All I know is I wasn’t having any fun. That pivot was quick to say the least!
I realized that what I really enjoy is working closely with people to solve complex problems and design systems that just work.
Yes, businesses are here to make money.
But they can also be a source of fun not to mention incredible personal growth for founders.
I mean if you do it right...
If you don’t do it right, your business can be an untamable beast that consumes your energy even outside of work.
I don’t know about you but there’s enough going on in the world that I don’t need to feel swallowed whole by the thing that takes up one third of my life.
A better option is to build systems that allow us to
do more fun things in and outside of work.
